Tyrant Lizard EPK

Tyrant Lizard presents its debut recording with a lush collection of trumpet-lead Americana.
The album features two American classics: the beloved folk song “Shenandoah” and the country-western showtune “Don’t Fence Me In” by the legendary songwriter Cole Porter. The other six songs are brand new originals by trumpeter Ray Larsen that showcase the band’s unique sonic palate, improvisational fluency, and powerful storytelling.
Ray is joined by guitarist Gregg Belisle-Chi and bassist Carmen Rothwell who co-founded the trio in the spring of 2014. Using live effects to create larger and more resonant soundscapes, they have centered their music within the intersection of folk, blues and swing traditions. The unlikely pairing of instruments creates an irresistible world of reverberant melodies, boundless grooves and ethereal textures.
Ray, Gregg and Carmen have gained notoriety within the Pacific Northwest, having received industry-nominated Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Awards for “Emerging Artist of the Year” (Rothwell and Larsen) and “Album of the Year” (Belisle-Chi and Larsen). They have been involved in numerous projects lead by such luminaries as Wayne Horvitz, Michael Shrieve, Bill Frisell, Eyvind Kang, Ted Poor, and Cuong Vu. Ray’s music has been described by the Seattle Times as “life-enhancing”.
Audiences can hear a live performance at the album release show on December 21st at the Royal Room in Seattle, and live on KNKX earlier that day. The band also plans to perform a series of shows in Brooklyn and Manhattan early in the new year.
The album will be available to the public on December 21st at
